Exploring Lion Habitat Ranch, Home to Roaring Rescued Lions in Henderson, NV
For many animal lovers, the idea of visiting a real lion sanctuary may be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Fortunately, residents of Henderson, NV, now have the opportunity to do just that with Lion Habitat Ranch (LHR), the first sanctuary of its kind in the area. Established in 2016, LHR is a safe haven for lions that have been rescued from the illegal pet trade, circuses, and various unhealthy environments. Visitors of all ages can witness the majestic power of these incredible animals firsthand, up close and personal. At LHR, the lions are provided with a natural habitat that closely resembles their natural environment without sacrificing comfort or security. The facility is designed in such a way that visitors can observe the lions while they roam freely and safely, enjoying lush grasses and plenty of water. The lions can be found lounging in the shade, cooling off in one of their many pools, or playing with their enrichment toys. LHR is constantly looking for new ways to enrich their habitats and ensure the lions are happy and healthy. The ranch features over 5,000 square feet of outdoor habitats and over 1,000 square feet of indoor habitat for the lions to enjoy. Information can be found here.
To help support the sanctuary, LHR offers several tours throughout the week. During the tour, a knowledgeable guide will accompany visitors around the grounds, teaching them about conservation and the lion species, as well as providing detailed information about each individual lion. Guests will be able to get up close enough to touch the lion’s fur and even hand-feed them if they wish. Before the tour ends, guests will be able to visit LHR’s education center, where they can get an even more in-depth look at the animals, their behaviors, and the sanctuary itself.
